The duo sat down with MTV News in Berlin to discuss a pair of unlikely collaborations.

Theirs is a relationship that has spanned time and Twitter, seafood and shaving, but over the years, the unlikely bond between the Black Keys and Ke$ha has grown to become something more: a genuine friendship, marked with the occasional trespassing charge.

"We're friends with her, we've known her since way before she was famous, before she was even a singer, I guess," Keys drummer Patrick Carney told MTV News. She actually has snuck into shows in L.A., San Diego, Coachella ..."

"She snuck in and [got] kicked out of one show, like, five times," frontman Dan Auerbach added. It's not all that far-fetched, considering both Ke$h and Auerbach live in Nashville ("I see her every once in a while flying by in her T-Top [convertible]," Auerbach laughed), and recently, the glittery one has logged studio time with the Flaming Lips. The former Spice Girl - who has been in a relationship with property developer Thomas Starr for 10 years - was packing some bags from Tesco and Scarlet’s helmet. Looks like the tot was interested in going for a scooter ride shortly after shopping.

Seoul, South Korea, set list heavy on new material, but Gaga's biggest hits come out to play.
By John Mitchell

Lady Gaga kicked off her hotly awaited Born This Way Ball at Seoul, South Korea's Olympic Stadium on Friday (April 27) in front of 45,000 fans, and despite protests from Christian groups saying Mother Monster was "obscene" and could "taint" young people with her performance, the concert appears to have gone on without incident.

Intrepid Twitter fans are already showing off pictures and video of the BTW Ball's enormous Gothic castle backdrop and myriad costume changes, making it clear that Gaga has outdone even her own Monster Ball in terms of spectacle.

While we wait for reviews to trickle in from halfway around the world, one thing is certain: No minors were corrupted at the show. Earlier this month, the Korea Media Rating Board decided to elevate the age rating for the concert from 12 to 18, prohibiting minors from seeing the concert. When the board notified Gaga's tour promotion company and a sponsor of the change in age restrictions, it did not offer a reason why the show — which at the time was still in rehearsals and had not been reviewed publicly — was considered unsuitable for children under 18.

The likely catalyst for the board's decision came more into focus as the concert neared and protests from a group of conservative Christians calling itself the Alliance for Sound Culture in Sexuality ramped up. The group covered Seoul with posters accusing Gaga of "spreading unhealthy sexual culture" through "lewd lyrics and performances."

The superstar and her fans, however, were undeterred. Though she tweeted her hopes that the Korea Media Rating Board would reverse its decision (it didn't), she continued on as planned. Many fans reportedly arrived at the show wearing versions of Gaga's most well-known flamboyant costumes, and there have been no reports of disturbances at the concert.

Before the show, Gaga tweeted, "I can you hear you Korea. I'm shaking."

Gaga's performance was heavy on material from her Born this Way album, though her biggest hits, including "Bad Romance," Poker Face" and "Just Dance," were represented.

Lady Gaga's Born This Way Ball set list:

» "Highway Unicorn"
» "Government Hooker"
» "Born This Way"
» "Bloody Mary"
» "Bad Romance"
» "Fashion of His Love"
» "The Queen"
» "Just Dance"
» "Love Game"
» "Telephone"
» "Just Dance"
» "Heavy Metal Lover"
» "Bad Kids"
» "Hair"
» "Yoü and I"
» "Electric Chapel"
» "Americano"
» "Poker Face"
» "Scheiße"
» "The Edge of Glory"
» "Marry the Night"

Did you see Lady Gaga's Born This Way Ball? Investigators spoke to the victim in the alleged battery incident on Tuesday and would like to get Bieber's side of the story.
By Gil Kaufman

Police investigating the criminal battery
complaint against Justin Bieber have spoken to the alleged victim in the case and are now looking to talk to other witnesses to Sunday's altercation, including Bieber and girlfriend Selena Gomez.

A spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department confirmed to MTV News that police had interviewed the unnamed victim, a paparazzi photographer who claims that Bieber struck him after he tried to take pictures of the "Boyfriend" singer and Gomez at the Commons at Calabasas Shopping Center on Sunday afternoon.

In addition to the celebrity couple, investigators are looking for any other witnesses to the incident to help piece together a narrative of what went down during the scuffle. There has been no detailed information to date on what injuries were allegedly suffered by the photographer, who complained of pain and was transported by the Los Angeles County Fire Department to a local hospital, where he was treated and released.

According to The Los Angeles Times, legal experts examining the potential case against Bieber, 18, say that the key issue is whether the pop star acted in self-defense. "These guys will often make it impossible for the celebrity to pass," said former deputy district attorney Dmitry Gorin of the obstacles paparazzi photographers often set for stars that sometimes end in physical contact. "Bieber could face a charge if he pushed or hit the photographer and it was not in self-defense," Gorin said. "But it is not really a jail-time offense."

He said the case would likely be a misdemeanor battery unwitnessed by police and the alleged victim could make a citizens arrest, at which point prosecutors would decide whether to file charges. The maximum sanction if convicted is six months in jail, but due to chronic overcrowding, his first-time offender status and the lack of police witnesses, it's highly unlikely Bieber would serve anywhere close to that term.

As of press time, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office had not officially taken up the case. A spokesperson for Bieber, who is out of the country promoting his upcoming Believe album, had no comment on the matter.

On Tuesday, a spokesperson for the D.A.'s office said that no case has been presented to that office yet, but that it's possible once interviews are conducted that it will be referred for possible prosecution. Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department spokesperson Lieutenant Margarito Robles told MTV News on Tuesday that the investigation is ongoing and that there was no update on its progress at press time. He also noted that a large percentage of these kinds of cases do get presented to the D.A.'s office, where it is left up to prosecutors to decide how, or if, to proceed.

Go see Captain America this weekend! Support our Colin!

I went to the premiere on Tuesday and it was the coolest thing ever. First, the movie is AMAZING and Chris Evans is a superstar. Second, there were so many damn people there it was insane. I have been to movie premieres in New York before and they were nothing like this. I mean, they closed down Hollywood Boulevard. I would've taken photos to show you, but the invite said to leave phones in the car. But here's a photo of me in my cool Captain America 3D glasses:
(Sit down, stop jumping around, it's an awesome picture, I know. And the quality is amazing. It's not grainy or reddish... it's perfect.) (No, it's not.)
(And you can totally see the Captain America logo on the side of the glasses.) (No, you can't.)
Anyway, Captain America is pulling a strong 71% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes right now so GO SEE IT! IT'S FANTASTIC!

'It was a song we did, kind of like a funny, kind-of-a-joke song,' Diplo tells BBC Radio of B's 2011 single, which sampled his Major Lazer song.
By James Montgomery

This may come as a surprise to devoted disciples of the Queen B, but according to producer Diplo, Beyoncé's 2011 single "Run the World (Girls)" actually started as "a joke."

"I think a lot of people don't even realize where that song came from," Diplo told BBC Radio's Newsbeat. "That song never really had a push. It was a song we did, kind of like a funny, kind-of-a-joke song."

<div class="player-placeholder right" title="Beyoncé - "Run The World (Girls)"" id="vid:654804" width="415" height="255">

"Run the World" was released as the first single from Bey's much-anticipated 4 album, though it was met with a slightly puzzled reaction from some of her die-hard fans and failed to generate much heat on the charts, reaching only #29 on the Billboard Hot 100. Subsequent singles "Best Thing I Never Had" and "Love on Top" fared slightly better, going as high as #16.

Of course, Diplo isn't actually credited as a producer on "Run the World" (that honor would go to The-Dream, Switch, Beyoncé herself and Shea Taylor), but he did snag a writing credit, thanks to the song's hefty sample of his Major Lazer track "Pon de Floor." But he did produce the 4 track "End of Time" and remembered the experience as a surreal one.

"We had to finish up a few records we were working with her on," Dip said. "That was super-weird, man. Like, I remember we were in the studio working with her and I still couldn't believe it."

Gaga's tour promoters are negotiating with government officials for Jakarta concert to go forward despite threats from extremist groups.
By John Mitchell

Lady Gaga has responded to the increasingly volatile situation surrounding her "Born This Way" concert in Indonesia, saying on Twitter that she has been asked by authorities to censor her show and has received threats of violence from Islamic hardliners should it go on as planned.

Earlier reports indicated that Gaga's planned June 3 concert at Jakarta's Gelora Bung Karno Stadium had been canceled after Indonesian national police refused to issue a permit, citing objections from Islamic groups who worried that Gaga's performance would corrupt the nation's youth. However, Gaga's tour promoters are currently negotiating with government officials and police for the concert to go forward as planned.

"The Jakarta situation is 2-fold: Indonesian authorities demand I censor the show & religious extremist separately, are threatening violence," Gaga tweeted Tuesday (May 22). "If the show does go on as scheduled, I will perform the BTWBall alone."

Fifty thousand tickets for the show have been sold.

While Indonesia is a secular state governed as a multi-party representative democratic republic, it has the world's largest population of Muslims, most of whom practice a moderate form of the religion. However, there are also more extremist fringe groups that have in recent years become increasingly vocal, particularly regarding Western entertainers visiting the country. Beyonc é, for example, was permitted to perform in Indonesia — the world's fourth most populous nation — on the condition she agreed to dress more conservatively.

But these groups' problems with Gaga extend beyond her wardrobe. The country's top Islamic body, the National Ulema Council (MUI), has said it objects to the concert not only because of her provocative costumes, but because it considers her lyrics to be "blasphemous," according to the AFP.

"Lady Gaga is considered an icon for liberal culture and Indonesia's freedom is not without limits," MUI official Asrorun Niam told AFP. "There are restrictions related to norms, morals and religion."

A more militant group, the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI), said it would "create havoc" if the pop star's performance went ahead, calling her the "devil's messenger." The Jakarta Globe reports the FPI have purchased 150 tickets to the concert, promising to enter the venue and stop the concert.

A spokesperson for FPI stressed that the group would not attack the audience, as their only target was Gaga and her crew. The group posted to its Facebook page a photo of a member wearing a turban and sunglasses to conceal his face, holding a ticket to the show with a caption reading, "We have gotten Lady Gaga tickets, not to watch but for us to enter. Whatever will be will be, we're ready for the risk."

"Hopefully, the concert is canceled," the FPI has said. The group previously threatened to intercept Gaga in transit from the airport if she even enters Indonesia.

Despite the threats, lawyers representing Gaga's tour production company reportedly met with Jakarta police today to negotiate the conditions necessary for the concert to go on as scheduled. A Jakarta police spokesman has said that for the concert to go ahead, concert promoters need to secure permits from the tourism ministry and the concert venue owner, in addition to ensuring Gaga "is dressed appropriately and does not violate cultural norms in this country."

Gaga also encountered protests in the Philippines from conservative Christian groups ahead of her concerts in Manila, but seemed in good spirits despite the controversy, tweeting, "And don't worry, if I get thrown in jail in Manila, Beyonce will just bail me out. Sold out night 2 in the Philippines. I love it here!"
